- Alternative explanations are interpreted as attempts at dismissal or concealment.
The result is that uncertainty itself becomes evidence. A viewer may conclude that because an object is difficult to identify, it must represent advanced technology.
The famous STS-48 Space Shuttle footage illustrates this process. The video shows bright objects apparently changing direction after a flash. UFO advocates have long argued that the footage depicts intelligently controlled craft. However, the evidential lesson is straightforward: a strange-looking frame is not, by itself, evidence of a UFO. Before it can support claims about hidden spacecraft or government cover-ups, the technical conditions under which the image was created must be understood.
In practice, the strongest investigations begin with the camera, the lighting and the environment. Only after those possibilities are exhausted does the question of something genuinely unknown become meaningful.
